CHAMPIONS ELITE

Broad Plain 2nds knew that a victory today would see them win the league title as Champions, with a game to spare.
But they were taking nothing for granted, especially as they were without influential scrum,Paul Morgan and a recognised
Fly halve due to injury. So they had to call upon 18yr old Joe Hunt, who was making his first full start in senior Rugby and
Sam Johnson, who normally plays flanker,to both step in at the last minute.
The game got underway with Avonmouth kicking to Broad Plain. The ball was caught by open side flanker James Hunt, who made some good ground before being tackled into touch.
From the resulting Lineout, the ball was stolen by Plains forwards, who set up a driving maul just outside their opponents 22.
With more defenders joining to halt the push,Flanker Tony Andres emerged from the tail to dive over for Plains first try, which was brilliantly by Joe Hunt.
The game restarted and it did not fail to disappoint, with both sides showing some great resolve in defence, with Captain,Robin Tremlett leading from the front, with some bone crunching tackles in midfield.
Broad Plain were showing why they were League leaders, trying to run the ball and offload at every opportunity. So it was only a matter of time before they would score again ,with Wayne Morgan scoring under the posts, which was not converted.
The forward pack were dominating the open play and in the tight, with Martin(Wiff)Smith,Steve Stewart and Hooker James Smith showing great ball skills.
Plain scored another try just before half time with some powerful running from Prop Tony Labruna, who popped the ball off to Captain Tremlett, who scored out wide, with the conversion being missed.
The second half started as the first had finished, with Plain on top,and with the majority of possession, thanks to the formidable back row trio of Wayne Morgan,James Hunt and Tony Andres, who were running the show, with there quick thinking ,bullish tackling and none stop running.
With both sides making substitutions,Carl Syrett came off the bench for stalwart Prop,Terry Bryant, who at the ripe old age of 58,is still putting in a shift.
Avonmouths substitutions seemed to kick start a revival and they two quick unconverted tries, much to the shock of Plain.
Not wanting to lose their unbeaten record,The home side stepped up a gear and scored a try through hooker,Smith crossing the the line for 5 points only, because they didn't have an available goal kicker.
The game was nearing full time, and Broad Plain had one last flurry left, when the opposition spilt the ball forward just short off Plains try line. Fullback Phil Savage scooped the up and broke through the gain line, where he passed to winger Chris Hudd and Centre Josh Jobbins, who were in support.they in turn, managed to evade would be tacklers and make good ground.with Avonmouth defenders bearing down on them,up stepped the cavalry,in replacement second rowers Mike Morris and Guy Proctor, who were in hot pursuit. Morris received a pass from Jobbins, who then passed to Proctor, who Usain Bolted his way over for a spectacular team try.Andres added the conversion as the full time whistle blew for a well deserved victory and to be crowned Champions
