Hot on the heels of last week’s victory against Cleve, the lads started well with an early try for Leo, followed by a 2nd for Max. The restart led to a great run by Iori before the ball went loose resulting in a Weston scrum. Great defence by Aaron and Rhys followed by a joint
effort from Suryajit and Kenz led to a Broad Plain line out. Kenz took to the air and swift passes from Fred, Rhys and Iori got the ball to Max who gained some territory then the ball went from Aaron to Henry to Suryajit who got the ball to Leo’s out on the wing before offloading to Jacob. Weston defence was strong, but not strong enough, and Jacob got it over the whitewash, giving Broad Plain a comfortable 17-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Connor took control of the team talk during the break, pumping the lads up with the vision of a potential 50-pointer (at which point they all agreed they could start messing about).

Going into the second quarter, Weston’s kick was claimed by Leo who stormed forward before getting it to Lori then Zayd before the ball went loose and Weston took possession. Called back for a Broad Plain knock on, Weston’s scrum on the 22 looked threatening and they fed it
to their number 13 who managed to offload seconds before going into touch. Broad Plain fought back and Zayd took possession, with a great pass to Henry who got it out to Jacob who gained good ground before appearing to take a knock. Broad Plain lost the ball during
the scrum and Weston put the pressure on right on Broad Plain's line but the boys managed to hold them off. A strong kick from Kenz was picked up by Weston before they over-passed it, leading to a Broad Plain line out. Zayd took possession and made about 50 metres and
was challenged whilst successfully offloading to Rhys. Weston’s main man number 13 and his mighty mullet managed to get his hands on the ball out of the scrum and ran through Max’s tackle attempt before getting Weston’s first try. With a conversion straight in front of
the sticks, mullet man kicked it over, giving Weston 7 points.

Broad Plain’s restart was picked up by Weston but an immediate challenge from Rhys, Zayd and Connor took their big man down and took possession with the ball going down the line from Kenzie to Suryajit before Weston took it back. Weston got it to mullet man again who
tried to run it in again but was taken down with a try-saving tackle from Leo. Connor took the ball and looked ready to run the full length but lost his footing before a successful tackle led to Weston taking possession. A broad Plain kick set the lads running down the field, with
around 30 metres made, before a Broad Plain line out with an unsuccessful attempt at a rolling maul near the half way line. Broad Plain looked briefly lost momentarily, but we retained possession with Rhys and Iori making a great run before Max made a few metres and the ball got to
Jacob. Weston took it back and one of the Weston lads playing for us took down one of his teammates before mullet man got the ball again and ran it down the field resulting in Weston’s second try with conversion, 19-14.

Broad Plain were looking very relaxed with half time on the horizon. The restart went short, giving Weston a scrum on the centre line and Mullet man took possession before being challenged by Kenz and Suryajit. The ball went loose and but he reclaimed it and despite
a solid challenge from Connor he went over again followed by a conversion, giving Weston the lead for the first time at 21-19. Rhys took the restart and Weston received well but knocked on, giving Broad Plain a scrum between the 10 and 22. Fred and Zayd worked
together to get the ball out and a series of phases involving Jacob. Connor, Fred, Iori, Rhys and ending with Leo resulted in another going down right between the sticks for the home side. The Conversion was not achieved and Broad Plain ended the first half 24-21 up.

With another couple of Weston boys swapping in for us, Broad Plain took the first kick, well received by Weston but an immediate tackle from Aaron challenged them. Zayd, Iori challenged, getting the ball to Rhys who took it toward before an offload to Connor who endured a spinning tackle from Weston but somehow kept possession before Ryan took hold. A penalty was given and a quick tap and go from Fred sent Aaron on the charge towards the 22, supported by Jacob. When threatened, Aaron offloaded and Jakob darted back at forth before a fantastic off load to Ryan who finished it off for the lads – 29-21. The conversion went over for Broad Plain moving them up to 31-21.

Weston took the restart and Connor was ready to receive but the ball bounced off him resulting in a Weston scrum. Weston attacked hard, getting the ball out to the wing before a great tackle by Rhys. Play continued and Broad Plain were fighting hard but penalised for getting
the ball illegally, giving Weston a penalty 10 metres from our line. A quick tap and go resulted in a Weston try and a successful conversion by mullet man made it 31-28.

Broad Plain took the restart with a kick from Kenz but Weston were clumsy, receiving the ball but running into each other making them an easy tackling target. Mullet man got it out the back of the ruck but was challenged by Jacob with Max rucking over with support from Fred. Broad Plain were awarded a scrum and Fred fed the ball out to Zayd and there was a series of passes to Jacob then Max and Iori who charged forward with a strong run, gaining good ground before handing off to Leo for the big man’s 2nd hattrick in 2 games. The conversion from a very tricky spot on the wing wasn’t achieved leaving it 36-28.

Mullet man took the kick to get the restart going straight to Rhys who offloaded to Henry, Fred then Jacob who had a fantastic run making around 50 metres before offloading to Suryajit. Fred got involved and go the ball to Leo before a pass was made to Connor. A
knock on led to a Weston scrum in their 22. Putting our 2 Weston lads in the scrum, they fed it out the back before great tackles from Rhys and Leo pushed them into touch. Broad Plain enjoyed the line out and Ryan got it nicely to Kenz then Henry before the ball went loose and a Weston knock led to a Broad Plain scrum. With Weston pushing too soon in the scrum, it was reset before Zayd had a great run down the wing, offloading to Max who was tackled but got the ball to Jacob who went on the charge before offloading to Aaron. Weston briefly took
possession from a loose ball but Iori quickly regained it and Broad Plain ended the third quarter 36- 28 up.

The lads had their tails up going into the final 15, with 2 new Weston lads coming over for the last quarter. Weston got it out of the back of the scrum before challenges from Leo and Zayd. Broad Plain put pressure on down the wing, with Henry to Max to Rhys before a restart with
a quick tap and go followed by a kick. Weston received the ball, it went loose but they got it back and were challenged by Connor, Jacob and Zayd as they sought to get the ball out to the wing. Strong tackles from Zayd and Ryan couldn’t bring them down and they made it to
our 10 metre line but were forced into touch by Leo. With a Broad Plain scrum dangerously close to the try line, it was fed out the back to Jacob with a series of passes between Iori, Connor, Aaron and Rhys before a successful tackle. We retained it in the ruck and Iori got
the ball to Jacob who made a run for it before a great offload to Zayd who made a run for it. Another great series of passes going from Zayd to Iori to Max to Fred to Rhys before going to a Weston player on our side who dropped it resulting in Weston taking possession. Broad Plain’s
quick tap and go, followed by a kick from Ryan gave us a line out 5 metres from their line. The ball gets to Leo again and he almost makes it 4 but was taken down, fortunately he presented the ball and Zayd got it out of the ruck and took it over the whitewash giving Broad Plain
another try. 41-28 to the home side.

The Weston kick was received by Jacob who dodged all over the place, making a great run across the centre line before offloading to Aaron who received it well but was quickly challenged. Henry got it out of the ruck and the ball went from Max to Iori to Kenz to Aaron before Zayd once again took it over the line. Jacob successfully took the conversion and with Broad Plain at 48-28 with two mins on the clock it seemed a sure win for the boys.

The Weston restart went to Connor who made a great run before being successfully challenged. Weston did a quick tap and go, working hard to get it down the line before we got the ball again with passes from Suryajit to Henry to Zayd. One of the Weston boys playing for us got possession but quickly gave it away, leading to a Weston scrum and they came down the wing for a last ditch effort bringing them up to 35 with the conversion, leaving us 48-35 at 60 minutes and two wins on the bounce.

Next week's away game to Frampton Cotterrell could be a completely different prospect, but with the wind very much now in the Broad Plain sails, it will hopefully be a good game.
