St Mary’s Old Boys v Broad Plain U8s

Games 3 - 0

Game 1

St Mary’s 1 – 3 Broad Plain

Team: Josiah, Theo, Dan, Ethan, Joe, Jack, Amos, Will

Scorers: Dan, Amos, Will.

Thanks to Joe for playing for the opposition.

The boys walked on the pitch proudly wearing the new kit. Immediately everyone saw the boys getting stuck in from the kick off.
When defending the boys quickly got back on side, this would present St Mary’s with a wall of burgundy, blue & gold which they found very difficult to break through.
There was also pressure applied to St Marys when kicking off & sometimes this would pay off with a fumbled ball which either gave the boys time to regroup or turn the ball over & attack.
When attacking the boys passing was accurate & fast with good support giving options for the boys to move forward & make ground. Rarely today did I see any of the Broad Plain boys run backwards.

Game 2

St Mary’s 0 – 3 Broad Plain

Team: Leo, Blake, Jake, Rory, Wes, Charlie, Oliver, Harvey

Scorers: Blake [2], Oliver

Thanks to Harvey for playing for the opposition

A huge improvement in defence saw Plain record a rare “clean sheet”, with the boys taking the exercises they’d just been doing straight on to the pitch. Fantastic to see all the outstretched arms as the defensive line spread out. At least two turnovers were gained after 6 tags were taken, with all the boys chipping in. Special mention to Oliver though who left the referee bamboozled by his lightning fast tagging. Strong running by Blake saw him twice cross for scores, with Oliver getting just reward for his defensive display with a try of his own.

Game 3

St Mary’s 3 – 6 Broad Plain

Team: Josiah, Theo, Dan, Ethan, Joe, Jack, Amos, Will

Scorers: Josiah, Theo [2], Dan, Joe, Ethan.

Thanks to Will for playing for the opposition- and scoring twice for them!!!

A more open game with Plain displaying excellent support play that led to a number of tries. Theo crossed twice after trade mark mazy runs, with Josiah, Dan, Joe and Ethan all scoring too after fast breaks. Tagging was again a strength – but we have to remember to get back behind the ball after taking the tag, or risk being caught offside!

Man of the Matches: Josiah – who has made a vast improvement in such a short space of time, tagged like a demon and got on the score sheet too. A great example of the value of listening to the coaches!!!

I was very impressed today with the discipline of the boys today during the games & also the remembrance silence

Thank you all
