A physical and close encounter with Bishopston on their new 4G pitch but Broad Plain start the season with maximum points!

On arrival to Bishopston's new 4G pitch, Broad Plain were feeling confident after an excellent comeback victory over Cheltenham last week. Injuries meant a few changes to the starting team but captain Liam Howland was confident the squad selected were capable of victory.

Unfortunately, Broad Plain had a typical Broad Plain start with a few handling errors and missed opportunities early on. Chris Hudd made an excellent break in the first few minutes but a lack of support led to a turnover. Bishopston were strong in defence and held out despite numerous phases within their 22. A reversed penalty on the 5m line after an off the ball collision which left Rickey Rudge needing hospital treatment led to a breakaway try for Bishopston and an early lead. Anthony Sanderson came onto the wing to make his debut for the first team and had a significant impact.

Broad Plain were back in the game before half time with a score from Ben Oaten taking an offload from Jordan Barrett after a good break away from a driving maul. Ross Arnold made the conversion to tie the game up.

The second half saw Broad Plain and Bishopston exchanging scores with Andy Forbes and Anthony Sanderson scoring for Broad Plain. With just under 10 minutes to go, the score was 19-19 despite Broad Plain having Mark Thornton and Andy Forbes sin binned during the game. Ill discipline from Plain's defensive line gave the Bishopston kicker a chance to take the lead with a few minutes left which he took. 22-19.

With the clock ticking into the final minutes, Plain kept the ball alive with a series of offloads and quick rucks which led to Anthony Sanderson scoring after a slip by the opposition winger. Ross kicked his third conversion of the day to end the game.

We look forward to returning and playing Bishopston again next week for the cup game.

Two victories to start the season and maximum points!

Up the Plain!
